Port Manchac is the only port in the whole of the Northshore Region. Port Manchac is an inter-modal facility that serves manufacturing and distribution clients throughout the Gulf South. It is ideally located on the Canadian National Railroad's north-south main rail line which runs directly adjacent to the port's property and provides regular service to the facility as needed. The terminal is also located directly adjacent to Interstate 55 with nearby direct links to I-12, I-10, and I-59, and outside of the congested Port of New Orleans and Port of Baton Rouge cargo markets.

The Canadian National Main Line provides freight services, and Amtrak’s passenger train service operates daily with north and south travel as well as connecting services east and west.

Hammond's Main Street is an accredited Louisiana Main Street Community and has been since 1986. The Hammond program is now used as a national model for Main Street Program success.
